Marvin Gaye’s Influence on hip hop

Remember the feeling you had the first time you heard Method Man and Mary J. Blige on 'All I Need' back in the mid '90s?

I'm sure even thinking about that track today brings tears to grown cat’s eyes. That was about 15 years ago. Sounds like a long time ago, but in 1968, somebody picked up a Marvin Gaye record called You're All I Need To Get By and had the exact feeling.

Minus the rap, of course... In the Oct/Nov issue of HYPE, meet our ‘Playmaker’, Marvin Gaye, who’s songs have been sampled by hundreds of rappers over the decades. Check out the list and see how many samples you can recognise!
