California ‘drug kingpin’ Freeway Ricky Ross was released from Texarkana prison earlier this week after serving 20 years in jail for running a LA based multi-state drug operation in the early '80s, which earned upwards of 2 million dollars per day at its height.
The real Ricky Ross was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1996 after his former narcotics distributor, who was an undercover CIA agent, busted him for orchestrating the purchase of over 100 kilos of cocaine.
The American Gangster lifestyle of Freeway Ricky Ross has inspired countless rappers into re-telling his story and some have even chosen to adopt the California hustler’s name, i.e. Rick Ross. Though Ricky Ross went to prison ill-literate, he has since seized the opportunity to take hold of the immeasurable wealth of education and has become a multi-millionaire through legitimate businesses.
After finally being released, Ross plans to focus on writing a book and film, starting a record label, appearing on his own reality TV show and running a Foundation to help inner city youths who have been affected by the drug industry in Los Angeles.
