Smerf's feelings on Hip hop

If you attend Soweto Sunday sessions, then you'll no doubt be familiar with Smerf. He's the dope a*s MC that got battle MCS shook. On the verge of dropping his album, we caught up with him on the status of hip hop:

'Heres my opinion... There's many phases that we are still gonna have to go through for us to live off the love of hip hop. Like a baby growing up we are still in our childhood days of the culture.

The first thing is that we all have to decide and make it clear what hip hop is to us in our own surroundings. As much as this sounds corny, this is not AMERICA! We are in africa and we have been influenced by the western civilisation.

But until the idea of what hip hop means to us sinks in, and how it makes sense to us will determine if its just a phase we're going through, or if this a movement that will be recieved by generations to come.'
