Internationally acclaimed hip hop artist and actor Mos Def has set out 9 June 2009 as the official release date of his fourth album, The Ecstatic. The album hits the shelves via Downtown Records and drops on the 10 year anniversary of his classic debut, Black on Both Sides.
Mos returns to the rap game after 3 years, when he dropped Tru3 Magic with almost no promotion and no CD cover! The 20 year hip hop veteran has also given fans a taste of what is to come on The Ecstatic, with the release of Life In Marvelous Times and Quiet Dog on his myspace page. If these two tracks are anything to go by, The Ecstatic will be another classic contribution from the Grammy nominated artist.
Production on the new album is said to feature contributions from Mr. Flash and Preservation with guest MCs Talib Kweli and Slick Rick. Mos Def, real name Dante Terrell Smith, is also on his way to South Africa next month to attend the Cape Town Jazz Festival and will be in Jsec for one performance only on 9 April.
